An Open Letter To KUT Austin

I am an Austin resident who often listens to your news program for the latest information on local events. I was startled to hear about the continuing flooding in Houston, our nearby neighbors, but was even more shocked to hear no correlation between the “historic floods” and global climate change.

As a news outlet, you have a duty to present the causes of these “acts of nature” that take lives, so that awareness can start to grow in the minds of the public. This is no longer a matter of public opinion, global climate change is a fact, and one that is causing death. You have a civic duty to say that it is human behavior, oil, mining, and other human activities that are causing these deaths through climate change, or else you have forfeit your right to be considered an honest news outlet. These are not acts of nature, as you reported. They are acts of humans that have life and death consequences.

I hope that your reporting in the future will have the veracity and fact-checking necessary to start informing the public on our role in this, so that necessary change can happen.

Sincerely,

Cassandra

If you like what you read, feel free to share. Basic Rules: Be civil. We are all people and deserve respect. That’s a hard and fast rule, by the way, it is not optional. Other than that, anything goes.

Interested in many things, but nothing captivates more than technology, entrepreneurship, futurism, and humanity’s quest to problem-solve.
